Sweatin Like Nixon - Tunes For the Young People to Enjoy

Local rock standouts Sweatin Like Nixon are back with their second full-length relase, tunes for the young people to enjoy. The band brings their trademark brand of progessive rock, funk, and hip-hop to this ten-song release.

Crammed with all sorts of hooks, grooves, jams, sounds, noises, and anything else that can be done with an instrument, Nixon truly showcase the musical prowess they’ve honed on the road by playing nearly 150 shows each year.

The songs on the album have a very distinct quality about them with the catchy beats and sing-along lyrics that almost feel like you’re subliminally being told to drop everything and dance like only rhythmically-challenged white boys like myself can.

The songs are fun and unique in the way that you never know what’s going to happen next. The first track, ”Last Call,” is an anthemic rocker with heavy guitars and grinding vocals. Skip a few tracks up, and you’ll find “Comfortability.” A track laden with flowing, hip-hop vocals, a funky bassline, and the kind of drumming that wraps its arms around the song with its pace and its beat and holds everything together.

Sweatin Like Nixon is currently on hiatus while they practice and prepare for a spring tour and largescale promotion for the new album. Check them out Friday, January 24 at the Showplace Theatre.
