Southern Gentlemen - Double Your Pleasure

This is the perfect album to get your ass kicked to in some redneck dive on a Tuesday night. Notice the stripper on the front cover; it sets the tone for the whole album. Pop this in your CD player and you can expect lots of misogyny, booze-fueled rampaging, and a song called “Slutovirgin.” Double Your Pleasure is all about drinking Schmidts Beer, flowing mullets, and telling people Foghat really changed your life.

The musical aspect of this album reeks of 70’s super groups like Boston and Foreigner, but instead of “More than a Feeling,” you’ve got “Racing Back to Mississippi,” a tune that relishes hitting the open dirt roads in search of the truck stop blowjob of your dreams. It includes the lyrics “She’s trained in all the arts/Of the pleasures of the flesh/She’s all that I need/She sure does it best.” Wow.

The two songs that really make this album worth your listen are the aforementioned “Slutovirgin,” and the love gone wrong ballad “You Should Be Ashamed.” The song contains such masterful lyrics as “Don’t you think I know what’s going down/Babies are your game/You should be ashamed/Tricked me to bed/Then to wed/Gave me a child/I’m beguiled.” Wow.

Get this album if you long for the days of Supertramp and your mom doing your laundry. Don’t get this album if you’ve had a haircut within the past eight years.
