The Northern United States Liberation Front

Goal: To secede from the American theocracy in order to create our own democratic state; one which recognizes the rights and will of its people before all others, no matter of sexual orientation, race, creed, age, or ethnicity.

Provisional Member States: Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, Connecticut, New York, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine

It has become abundantly obvious since the mid-nineteenth century that there is a major ideological rift in the beliefs of the Northern and Southern inhabitants of the United States. Though there was noble and just cause to fight the Civil War, in retrospect, it is clear that the decision to keep the United States as one large and unified nation has been detrimental to the greater purpose of democracy and fair governance. We are calling for the immediate dissolution of the Union as we know it, in order to best serve the interests of the people, and to save the North from what is quickly becoming unwarranted subjugation under a foreign and theocratic government.

It is our belief, and, incidentally, that of our founding fathers, that the government’s purpose is to secure the rights of life, liberty, equality, and justice for all of its citizens, above all else. When, as the populace of this country, we feel that our consent is no longer considered in our governance, it is our right – nay, our duty – to throw off the shackles of tyranny which have bound us, and to restore power to the citizens. The history of the current President of the United States of America [George W. Bush] is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations of the Northern United States, and indeed the world, with the direct intent of establishing a quasi-tyrannical theocracy over these States. To prove this, let Facts be submitted to a candid world.

This government has passed myriad laws which are detrimental to the greater good of its citizens, in the interest of large corporations.

This government has consistently and systematically tried to remove and constrain the rights of its citizens; specifically, but not limited to, the equal rights of homosexuals, and the erosion of civil liberties inherent within the USA PATRIOT act.

This government has made their aim of enforcing their Christian ideals and beliefs upon all citizens with disregard to any separation of church and state abundantly clear.

This government has consistently lied to us in their push to war, and has led countless Americans and innocent Iraqi civilians to death in their pursuit of material and ideological ends in a foreign nation, and broken a continuous tradition of reactionary warfare, making the United States an aggressor nation.

This government has squandered our national surplus, giving it away to special interests, and has debilitated our educational, health care, and welfare institutions in order to oppress the masses and keep them in an impotent state of ignorance and poverty.

This government has divided our nation with its rhetoric of systematic religious hate and bigotry; it has induced and nurtured a climate of fear and paranoia and used it as a tool of political subjugation.

This government has consistently ignored threats to our environmental health, allowing increased amounts of harmful chemicals to be released into our air and water, and continues to ignore the single greatest threat to our national, and subsequently global safety: the specter of global warming.

This government, and those before it have been key in the propagation of the monopolistic two-party system, and has perpetuated the ignorance and near tyranny that comes with it.

In every stage of these oppressions, we the people of the Northern United States have attempted to gain redress through all legal channels, our repeated voice of patriotic dissent was answered by denunciations as unpatriotic. Our calls for justification of governance were met with dismissal and an inability to admit any wrongdoing. Our clear geographic mandate was stifled by the alien and foreign states of the Midwest and South. A President and Government whose every act is without the consent to these people is then a tyranny; unfit to be a ruler of these free people.

As it becomes increasingly clear that our neighbors to the West and South are of a different culture and ideology than us, we see that reconciliation is not an option. We are two separate people, ascribing to divergent morals, and disagreeing upon even the most foundational of philosophical beliefs. We must, therefore, acquiesce in the necessity, which denounces our separation, and view them as we do the rest of the world: enemies in war, and friends in peace; an independent and sovereign state.

We, therefore, the Northern United States Liberation Front, do in the name of the citizens of the aforementioned states declare that we are, and ought to be, a free and independent state; we are absolved of all allegiances to the government of the United States of America, and all political links to it and its capitol in Washington, D.C. As a free and independent state, we have full power to levy war, conclude peace, contract alliances, establish commerce, and to do all other acts that sovereign nations have the right to do. As such, we are wholeheartedly committed to returning the power and governing of the people of the northern United States to themselves, and pledge that we will do so by any means necessary, on this Third of November, 2004 CE.

The Northern United States Liberation Front.
