Just Watch The First Movie Over Again**

Movie Review: The Ring Two

If you head out to see The Ring Two, you’re only heading out for Round 2 of useless plot lines, predictable actions, and badly written scripts. The only thing frightening about this film was exactly that: the overdone, horrendous story line. Not only was it predictable and repetitive, but parts of it were so randomly put together that I thought quite frequently that I was staring at a moving Picasso painting (and not in a good way).

For instance, half way through the movie it suddenly became “Attack of The Deer,” in which several deer barricaded the roads in which the main characters of the movie were traveling on and rammed into their car several times, in an apparent effort to stop them. This bore absolutely no reference at all to the entire plot; it was, it seems, only sidled in perhaps in an effort to lengthen the movie. Then later on, some reference to the deer, by use of antlers, was carelessly thrown in, to make it seem as if this all had a point.

So I would have to say the script was not so intelligently written. This is evidenced by several occurring things in the film that literally made you do a double take and exclaim, “What?!” For example, for some unknown reason, the main character, Rachel, seemed to automatically gain access to whatever she needed (i.e. – into an ambulance, and to a girl at the police station). In my opinion, that’s just bad writing on the screenplay writer’s part.

I will say, however, that the one redeeming quality that the film has, if anything, is the imagery it uses. It was at times quite frightening and disturbing, as it often was in the first movie, but this was only infrequent and not enough to produce a truly “scary movie.”

Actually, at one point during the movie, my companion turned to me and quietly commented, “If this movie doesn’t end soon, I am going to gouge out my eyes with my straw.” I could only laugh and agree, because the movie indeed seemed to just stretch out for an immeasurable amount of time, where it was the same repetitive scene happening over and over again.

So, if you were a fan of the first movie – The Ring – then you might indeed like this continuation, which is basically just a regurgitation of the first film, and you might even find this one truly frightening. But in terms of a good, solid film, I couldn’t find anything that was different or unique or even slightly interesting that would deem this film a must-see.
