As a ten-year-old little girl, there was nothing like the big TV screen right in front of my eyes teaching me what life was about. Of all the shows offered; there were five that I truly loved, deep down in my itty-bitty heart. Although there were many great TV programs that brain-washed our minds, caused us to buy unnecessary accessories (Snap-Bracelets and Pogs), created strange words that we felt were “totally cool dude,” and produced role-models that we now pretend we never admired; there are TV shows I just can’t seem to let go of and truly believe should have never left TV. The Simpsons, Full House, The Cosby Show, Saved by the Bell, and Married With Children were the sole features that I adored and damn well still do!
1) The Simpsons; coated in gorgeous yellow skin, brought a smile to my face whenever I saw them, and continue to do the same today. Aside from their breathtaking appearance, all the characters have something to bring to the table. Who wouldn’t want to date Bart Simpson with his “badass” skateboard, share a donut and beer with Homer, or have Lisa Simpson take a test for you? You must not be human if they don’t tickle your pickle with their outrageous, hilarious stories and experiences to bring to your home.
2) “You’ve got it dude” is the slogan that started my friendship with Miss Michelle Tanner. With a lesson to learn every episode, the show Full House was one I could never miss. When the “lessoned to be learned” common tune of Full House begins to play, you know you’re in good hands and will learn something very much needed. From Stefanie’s make-out party incident to Michelle stealing the cookies, Full House should never leave our TV! If that wasn’t enough said, let us just pause to think of Uncle Jesse’s sexy “oh-mama” hair, oh my!
3) Early ‘90s bright-style sweaters, always “in-the-mood” parents, and the musical productions from the children help make The Cosby Show one of the loves of my life. Aside from the comforting family feel of this show and successful parents, a lawyer and doctor it offers a great sense of humor and a new situation each time. Those Cosby’s keep you on your toes and the parents keep you in “the mood.”
4) Zach Morris, the Ken doll clone, used a phone the size of a house and had a Barbie-like girlfriend Kelly. With the main characters cheating the school system and being “most popular,” Mr. Belding acting as the total clown principal, and Lisa Turtle poking fun at nerdy Screech, Saved by the Bell was my escape to a dream-world of what I wish my own high school experience was like. Although this show was one that most teenage girls would admire, the show did have a lot in store for the guys as well, such as bikini contests and the daily dose of Kelly, helping to excite every teenage boy’s fantasies. Saved by the Bell was and still is a crazy addiction I can’t seem to escape.
5) Budd; short, dork-like, stud-muffin son, Kelly; hot, thin, blonde daughter, Peggy; big-haired, large-chested, leopard-print wearing mother, Al; shoe-salesman, hands-in-pants, cynical, perverted, cheap father… who could ask for more? Married with Children was a one-of-a-kind show, gifted with fart jokes, barely-clothed women, beer burps, and bad manners. Everyone hated everyone, which in some way brought a “feel good,” “no rules” kind of show to our home. It taught us to just let go and let loose. I can’t get my eyes off of it and can’t stop laughing, I just can’t.
