“When the going gets hard, the hard get fancy”
-Liam “The Nancy” Panntsy
These words from my older brother have kept me going—along with my prescription for Valium—through all the criticism I face in my line of work. After last week’s debacle with my terribly unfashionable and extremely obese Generation colleague, Ricky Crotchman, I feel I have overcome those who oppose me.
Even though I spent most of the week recovering from Crotchman’s harsh words, wrapped in my faux fox fur blanket, watching my DVD set of the Gilmore Girls, and eating gallon after gallon of Edy’s Rocky Road Ice cream, I realized that I still love the lug. You’re nothing but a big meany, Ricky. Shame on you!
But I digress. I am here to do a job: the University at Buffalo’s sexy student body is starving for more entertainment news. So let’s get right down to it and bite into some of the tastiest morsels heading to campus this month.
Item! The International Artistic and Cultural Exchange Program (IACE) in conjunction with UB’s Center for the Arts (CFA) will present Cuba Teatro Galiano 108’s La Virgen Triste on Wednesday, September 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the Drama Theatre as a part of the IACE’s Cuban series. The performance is free and seats will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis, so don’t be late.
Interestingly enough, the title means The Sad Virgin, and oh how sad it would be to be a virgin in Cuba. I just love those saucy Cubans!
As a Puerto Rican, I am overjoyed with the fact that UB is celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month. Why we were stuck with September is beyond me, but I say, “Viva Septiembre!” We are so fortunate to get the month of… well the most beautiful… umm … the month between August and October.
This just in! The band Blue Merle is coming Sunday, September 25 at 8 p.m. They will be performing in the Mainstage Theatre at the CFA. It may not be 98 Degrees or Yanni (my personal favorite), but the press release I received promises orchestral richness and intricate arrangements of guitar, mandolin, upright bass, and drums. Tickets are available for $15 at the CFA Box Office and through any Ticketmaster location.
That certainly sounds scrumptious! I’ve always had a soft spot for musicians. Maybe I can take advantage of my backstage pass and convince them to bring me with them to their hotel room for a late-night romp. Oh, I’m so naughty!
Hold in your turtleheads! The Student Association (SA) has announced that Charlie Murphy and Friends are coming for a stand-up comedy performance at the CFA’s Mainstage Theatre on Friday, September 30 at 8 p.m. Oh Joy! It seems that yours truly will finally get his chance to meet his favorite hunk of chocolate in person.
Mr. Murphy, the younger brother of comic legend, Eddie Murphy, is fresh off the success of Comedy Central’s short-lived, but often-hilarious sketch show, Chappelle’s Show. As a supporting cast member, his appearances as Tyree in the infamous Mad Real World sketch and as himself in Charlie Murphy’s True Hollywood Stories made him the show’s breakout star. Hopes are that he’ll reveal more about the love of my life, Prince (he can serve me pancakes any day). But who knows what will happen?
Charlie Murphy and Friends promise to be more outrageous than my last family reunion. And it was funny! Liam was so wasted from drinking strawberry daiquiris and Zima that he pulled his pants down around his ankles and started chasing around Aunt CiCi with the Super Cock 7 dildo she had purchased the night before taped to his purple Speedo. The pictures we got back from that fiasco were priceless.
Dear me! I’ve said too much!
Anyhoo, keep a look out for all sorts of great fun around campus. There is always something going here in Buffalo, no matter what may tickle your fancy. Did you get that? I said, “fancy.” Because I am “The Fancy” Panntsy. You know? Oh, to hell with you!
Wait. I didn’t mean that. I apologize. I’ve just been so emotional these days. I can barely afford to gas up my scooter to get to campus. I named it Percival.
Alas, these are tough days. So, distractions are welcome! Make sure to check the CFA or ask your SA representatives what may be going on this fall here at UB.
But, until next time! From me to you, a toodle-oo! And if you like, hugs and kisses too!
