Michael “Torque” Torsell is a senior English major at UB and Generation’s contributing editor. He recently quit his job at Delia’s because he felt the fall camisoles “weren’t sassy enough.” Dear Generation,
Please pass on my compliments for the Pulse feature. The Center for the Arts organization, not UB, has invested heavily in this series, and the staff has put in months of planning and coordination to bring a free concert series to the students on campus. I appreciate the effort that went into the article and the objective viewpoint. The writer was able to include details about the show that explained many of the “unusual” qualities of the show. Recent Spectrum “reviews” of Music is Art seemed like whiny complaints, without bothering to explore why the event runs like it does. Generation continues to set the example that you do not need full-color photos to produce a quality publication. Thanks again, Joanne Greatest Hits of the Letters Page:
December 9, 1986 Editor: You know winter is here when you begin to hear everyone moan and groan about how cold they are or how their new boots are ruined. Will someone explain to them that it’s a fact of life here? It will be cold, windy, and basically miserable. They should have known that before they applied to UB. It’s this type of weather that makes a person stronger, more tolerant, and better in the long run. You know, “only the strong survive.” The fact that I’m applying to three schools in the deep south for my graduate work has nothing to do with it. I really like it here in “the mistake by the lake.” So let’s quit complaining, hang in there, and make the best of it. I’ll send a postcard from the University of Florida telling you how much I hate it. -Steve P. University Student
