Vive l’Amour

She takes off her clothes, gets into bed, turns to George and says, “Good night.” George responds accordingly and shifts positions to fall asleep.

She awakes in the middle of the night and has to get his attention. She grabs him, knowing it will do the trick. George slowly reacts, slightly growing at her touch, and leans over to kiss her.

The sun bleeds through fabric, dispersing its rays across the blankets, waking them up. George is the first to rise, and heads downstairs to start making coffee. She lingers, but inevitably follows.

Before heading their separate ways few words are exchanged. “I’ll be home by six tonight.” George nods and watches her drive around the corner, before going back inside with the paper in hand.

That night, after dinner, she reads a book while he watches a film in the living room. The River is halfway through, and he can’t help but think about her pussy. He wants to lick it, and wishes she said she were tired so they’d have motive to go upstairs.

George is so obvious she thinks to herself as the pages of Le Carre get read but not acknowledged. She picks a little bit of the meat they ate from between her back teeth. She figures she ought to say she’s feeling pretty tired soon.

He sits alone at one of the many tables placed in this mall’s food court. He lights a cigarette with no drink or plate of food in front of him, just watching the hustle and bustle of his surroundings. The food court is packed with people.

Daisy somehow manages to find an empty table in the food court. Putting her green drink down she sits and places her bag in the chair beside her. Scanning the area she notices a man at the table behind her with a cigarette in his mouth. She lights one of her own.

He sees her stand, unaware of how much time has passed. She didn’t finish her cigarette, or her drink, and he knows that she wants him to follow her. He waits a little bit after her exit, and stands up.

Outside on the sidewalk Daisy spots a telephone booth and occupies it, just to see how he reacts. Choosing to play it smoothly, the young man walks right past, without even looking, rounding the corner out of sight.

He has to walk past her. If she follows then he knows the game has started. A few moments go by, not enough to worry him, she comes around the corner, briefly making eye contact with him, startled without being too blatant, and walks by him.

Now Daisy knows he’s interested, and it’s off to the apartment they go. Into the lobby, he follows her onto the elevator, to the door, and into the apartment. When they get to the designated room, she tugs at the man’s coat, making it clear he should take it off.

She clearly doesn’t want to stall, so he will gladly play along. He finds it a little weird that she won’t let him kiss her. But when she starts to unbutton his pants, he stops caring.

The next morning it’s as if nothing had happened. Daisy gets up naked and walks into the bathroom, closing the door behind her. They still hadn’t spoken. He hears the tub faucet turn on, and shifts positions in bed to fall back asleep. Until now he hadn’t realized, and he only does right before falling asleep, that there is no furniture in the apartment.

George comes out of the bathroom, the sound of the toilet flushing heard behind him. He enters his study and sits at his desk. He looks at his computer, the background a picture of him and Daisy together in a museum. He can’t wait for her to get home. It’s their anniversary today, meaning they will definitely have sex tonight; this puts him in a good mood. He starts writing and slowly everything else fades away.
