Your Student Voice

comments, concerns, or just plain bitching

Dear Generation,

I’m interested in joining the staff next year, especially the Literary section. Here’s a sample of a poem I wrote for a girl in high school.

“Comets”

Comets.

Comets are flying overhead

Heading straight from my soul, into your eyes, like an indestructible choo-choo train.

Choo. Choo.

“All Aboard!” the conductor yelled.

Destination: Paradise.

So, can I join?

Oh, hello.

I gotta say, I’m a bit impressed. Lucky for you and the rest of the student body and loyal soldiers of the Generation army, next week’s issue will be this year’s installment of our annual Fall Fiction spectacular. If you have any short stories, poetry, limericks, knock-knock jokes or what have you, please send us what you can in .doc format to sbi-generation@buffalo.edu. It’s kind of a running joke around the office that I want the personals to be nothing but haikus, but that might be a bit of a stretch. There’s actually a little bet going on that involves me doing some rather unspeakable things if next week doesn’t live up to my expectations, and given my adverse gag reflex, I’d rather see a whole bunch of haikus than, well, you know...things. Please make it happen; I have a lot riding on this. While you’re at it, if you’re that into riding the writing-train, I would like to advise you to consider joining the friendly staff at Generation for the spring semester. We need a bunch of talented writers, photographers, artists, and editors to fill a few positions opening up, so keep in touch for details on how to hop on board, as we are always looking for smiling faces to fill positions in every one of our departments. In the meantime, write us some stuff, get your resumes together, and don’t forget that we are always accepting baked goods. We like to eat.

Love,

-Andrew
