The Lonely Island - Incredibad

Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone, make up The Lonely Island, a trio of comedic filmmakers and songwriters who have been making people laugh their asses off since 2001. Their video for “Jizz in My Pants” premiered on Saturday Night Live this past fall, and became an instant YouTube phenomenon. Lucky for us, Samberg has changed his pants just in time for the group’s first album release, Incredibad, which was released on February 10. Incredibad has 19 songs and also includes eight extra digital-shorts on a bonus DVD, many of which were previously seen on Saturday Night Live.

Their newest single, “I’m on a Boat,” is a collaboration with T-Pain that doesn’t disappoint in the laughter department. The song is about—you guessed it—being on a boat, and includes T-Pain’s signature TC-Helicon, computer enhanced voice echoing, “I fucked a mermaid.” It’s good to see T-Pain has a sense of humor, as the music video features him and The Lonely Island cruising around New York City’s harbor on a luxury yacht.

Other than T-Pain, Incredibad features a slew of celebrities including Justin Timberlake, Natalie Portman, The Strokes’ Julian Casablancas, E-40, and plenty more. Singer Norah Jones lends her voice in the song “Dreamgirl,” which elaborates on the group’s ideal woman, however, Samberg makes this ideal woman unbelievably obscure and unattractive. How busted you might ask? Well, busted enough to keep Jones singing the hook, “Last week / Thought I saw you on the street / Turns out that was a bag of trash.”

Another contributor is actor Jack Black. As a member of Tenacious D, Black is familiar with the territory of satirical music, and his enthusiasm for comedy and singing transcends in the song “Saxman.” Throughout the entire song, Black talks up the amazing skills of a legendary sax player. But it turns out that Samberg, who is the Saxman, can’t play the sax for shit. The end result is hilarious.

Although many of the aforementioned singers have absolutely nothing to do with rap, the group itself clearly draws its inspiration from rap music, and it is hysterical to hear refined actresses such as Natalie Portman screaming, “Suck my dick!” The Lonely Island have succeeded in making music funny again. Incredibad is hysterical and is so far the best comedy CD of the year. You won’t be disappointed.

Mr. Pibb + Red Vines = Crazy Delicious. And so does this album. Double truth!
