CD Review : Apart From the Projector - Lover's Knot

* * * *

Energy is the single most important component of any live musical performance. Any band, no matter how big a venue they play, or how many people come to see them perform, must bring to each show a level of intensity that draws their audience’s attention at all times. The first time I was exposed to Apart From the Projector was at a basement show earlier this month, and I immediately realized that this quintet of indie rockers provide a perfect example of my theory. Their incredible level of intensity entranced every member of the audience, and influenced me to pick up the bands recently released EP, Lover’s Knot.

Luckily, Lover’s Knot translated the same motivating energy of AFTP’s live show. Though there are only four tracks on this CD, each provides a wide variety of musical themes coupled with the previously mentioned overwhelming emotion. This group also has the ability to incorporate three separate guitar parts at all times throughout all four of the songs. From the implementing of these guitar parts comes an array of unusual and innovative sounds. These unusual sounds supplement the EP’s intensity.

The only really negative thing I can say about this release is that it simply left me starving for more quantity. Four tracks on an album of this quality is just not enough. If you are remotely interested in any mid-tempo, emo type indie rock, you should look into Apart From The Projector.
