Best Rap Album, Best Rap Solo Performance, Best Rap Performance By A Duo or Group("Forget About Dre"): Eminem

Even with all the bad publicity, Eminem walked away with Best Rap Solo Performance and Best Rap Album for his sophomore album. As much as the critics tried to hate Eminem and The Marshall Mathers LP, they simply could not deny that it is an incredible album.

Eminem says whatever he wants in his tight lyrics and beats. He grabs your attention with the opening lines of every song-his ability to be honest is what makes you listen. What Eminem is saying is not just words but his feelings, pure and raw from start to finish. Those who have not listened to the whole album cannot honestly say that he is gay bashing or egging on the "messed up youth," as he has repeatedly been accused. He is only speaking to the parents that ignore their children, lost teens, and anyone who is willing to listen. Those who focus on every little word and its meaning (curses and all) are looking way too deeply into it.

Unlike many other albums, Eminem is speaking to you and not at you. Utilizing this style,"The Real Slim Shady" became the suburban white boy anthem of the summer of 2000. There are also songs like "Stan," which touch on the dark side of being a performer and a fan.

The world is a violent, crazy place. Through all the cute, happy music, Eminem stands out and releases the anger caused by society, yet society itself attempts to make you feel like it is wrong to feel that way. Repeatedly, Eminem says "I'm just playing," in order to remind society to stop blaming music, films and artists for the behavior of their child. If you have not listened to The Marshall Mathers LP as of now, then maybe it's about time that you did. With an open mind, listen.
