This was the must-have album of the year-people who didn't even know what a Radiohead was were buzzing about Kid A. It's a great album, but it's no OK Computer. Radiohead makes a point of trying to distance themselves from the style of OK Computer and The Bends, and they do so successfully. The guitars don't kick in until the fourth track, "How to Disappear Completely." The whole album is quite impressive in its musicianship, and in between all that, Thom Yorke manages to sing some melodies about alienation, personal grievance and the occasional fling. I recommend "The National Anthem," for its grooves, horns, jazz, and harmony. It stands as the centerpiece for an album that riddles the mind and leaves you waiting slack-jawed for their next release.
