"I'm just an Englishman. We don't talk about erections," said Ray Davies, once leader of The Kinks. He obviously never ran into these lads. Hefner sing about little else--no sexual repression here folks. To their credit, no one sings with such awkward sincerity and earnestness about boys and girls as Hefner. Following last year's singles collection, Boxing Hefner, this London trio returns with another masterpiece of slightly goofy and always endearing tracks, We Love the City. While more produced and polished than 1998's Breaking God's Heart and 1999's The Fidelity Wars, these songs remain fairly straight forward pop gems. However, it'sDarren Haymen's vocals that set Hefner apart from the rest of the pack. He croons! He whines! He screeches! I'm in love. And you should be too.
